A Celebration of Ball Hockey at the Opening Ceremonies

A CELEBRATION OF BALL HOCKEY AS PARTICIPANTS ENJOY THE OPENING CEREMONIES AT THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

ST. JOHN'S, Nfld - Over 700 players participated in the Opening Ceremonies of the 2013 International Street and Ball Hockey Federation World Championships at Jack Byrne Arena in St. John's, Newfoundland. Spectators filled the arena and all teams entered the venue representing their nations and joined each other in a celebration of the sport.
 
The Team Canada Women's team began their journey to gold as the World Women's Ball Hockey Championships commenced and Team Canada defeated Team Great Britain in their first round robin game. Shelley Cockerill from Winnipeg, Manitoba scored 3 (three) goals Fannie Desforges from Fournier, Ontario led the team with 2 (two) goals and 2 (two) assists.
 
The Team Canada Men's team remained undefeated with a hard fought 3-0 win over Team Slovakia in a matchup of Group A favourites. Mike Stinziani from Montreal, Quebec scored two goals and Fabio Luongo (also from Montreal, Quebec) posted his second shutout as the Team Canada Men took over sole possession of first place in their division.
