World Ball Hockey Championships are Under Way!

2013-06-03

Ball Hockey Teams from around the world have converged on St. John’s for the Men’s and Women’s world championships.

The entire community is buzzing- no matter where you go in St. John’s people are talking about ball hockey and teams are so excited.

The smiles on the faces of the teams today said more about the championships than anything.  Players, coaches and managers are raving about St. John’s with it’s beautiful scenery, friendly people and terrific food. They do it up right here in Newfoundland and the hosts have done a wonderful job to make everyone welcome.

Men’s A and B divisions got underway today with teams from the B pool playing at the Glacier Arena and A pool at Jack Byrne.  In their inaugural game, Team Israel tied Team Italy 3-3 in an exciting back and forth game.  Team Cayman Islands beat Team United Kingdom 4-1 and Team Bermuda won 8-1 over Hong Kong to round out the last game of the night.

In the Men’s A Pool, Team USA was flying in their first game, defeating Team France 16-0.  In the next game Slovakia beat Pakistan 8-1 in a decisive win. The third game of the night was an exiting game between Switzerland and Czech Republic.  In the end Czech Republic won 4-1 but it was close the entire game.

The final game of the night was between Team Canada and Team Germany.  Playing in front of a packed house, Team Canada came out strong beating Team Germany 11-0.  Team Canada looked very balanced and ready with 14 different players getting at least one point in the first game.

For Day 2, the Men’s A and B pools will continue with Canada playing Greece at 8:00PM NDT.  All games are being webcast Live and the stats are updated regularly. Be sure to catch all the action at: http://www.stjohns2013wc.com/
